Violins, violas, cellos
Restoration and repair
Born in Siena (Tuscany) in 1950. After schooling in his hometown, he moved to Cremona in 1974 to attend the International Violin Making School, where he graduated in 1978.
Soon thereafter he opened his own workshop and the same year was called to teach instrument making at the school’s workshop by the International Violinmaking School. Though valuing the experience very much, he chose to discontinue it after only a year, because of the amount of time it took away from his own professional activity as a violin maker. He decided to resume teaching later on, though, and was a member of the school’s staff for many years, from 1996 to 2011.
His work is mainly devoted to the making and restoring of violins, violas and cellos, but he also extended his professional scope to other kinds of instruments, such as the hurdy-gurdy, the lute, the mandolin, baroque guitar and viola da gamba.
He received awards and honourable mentions at various violin making competitions.
In 1980, he was a founding member of the ALI Association (Italian Violin Making Association). He was active in the professional violin and bow makers’ section of the Association, initially as board member and later taking on the role of secretary (1996 through 1998) and president (1999 through 2011. Since 1999 he also is a member of the Entente Internationale des Maîtres Luthiers et Archetiers d’Art (International Union of Master Violin and Bow Makers).
His workshop is located in Cremona’s historical city centre, in via Beltrami n. 8, just a few steps away from the Cathedral.
